Activities - what is going on in FEES

What is ergonomics?
including the official definition by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA)

This text is an abbreviated account, the full report was made available to the federated societies.

The two most significant activities of FEES outside the Committee work this year have been the continuing and concluding of the registration process (for FEES to be recognised as a legal entity) and collaboration with the EUTF on establishing the principles and procedures for organizing and running the 1st European Conference on Ergonomics (1st ECE), known as 101010, as it will run from 10th to 12th October 2010.

  1. FEES is now registered in Germany (i.e. under German Law) as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO). We are now, therefore, called FEES e.V. and our registration number is 6256. Our registered address is Ardeystrasse 67, 44139 Dortmund, Germany. Many thanks to Martin Schütte for his continued efforts in seeing this through.
  2. More information on the 1st ECE is given separately in the EUTF report. The key achievements have been: a) defining and agreeing the scope of the Conference and the programme; b) appointing a Conference management company and reserving the venue (in Bruges); c) establishing the Conference as a non-profit legal entity in Belgium (distinct from FEES e.V.); d) agreeing the format for setting up sub-contracts for Conference suppliers.

The other main activities of FEES are covered in the Committee reports but it important to note that some Committee initiatives have been constrained by a lack of funds despite such hard work from our very reliable Treasurer. Our income streams remain very limited, being only our annual payments from our Federated Societies and annual donations from our Sustaining Members (see below). For FEES to be more effective, especially by taking advantage of the Committee structure and engaging our Committee volunteers, we do need to increase our income.

Since our last Council meeting in Dortmund last March, we have had two executive Committee meetings:- 1 – 2 September 2008, Bruges, and 27 November 2008 (reduced Exec) in Brussels. I was able to represent FEES at the IEA Council meeting in Reykjavik last August, whilst being there on Ergonomics Society business. I also travelled to Dortmund on 7 October 2008 to sign a legal document, with the President, in the final stages of our registration process.
